A Utah man allegedly spent hours pummeling his grandmother while holding her hostage, with cops saying he also choked the 80-year-old by shoving a finger down her throat and disabled her Life Alert.
Kaden Robert Baird, 32, was arrested over Labor Day weekend after deputies said he assaulted his grandma, who lives with him, during an early morning attack that stretched from roughly 1 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. Saturday, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by local CBS affiliate KUTV.
Baird refused to let his grandmother leave their Morgan County residence or call police as he assaulted her for hours, the affidavit says.

The victim told police she managed to escape after Baird went down to their basement, KUTV reports. She called the police and told another grandson what happened. The grandson spoke to responding officers and said Baird was to blame for “numerous bruises” on the grandmother’s body.
The woman was transported to a local hospital and treated for fractured bones in her back and a broken wrist. She told police investigators that Baird came into her bedroom early Saturday and repeatedly attacked her.
Baird allegedly punched his grandmother, threw her to the ground, twisted her wrists and ankles and struck her with his cellphone. He also put a finger down her throat and restricted her breathing, according to the affidavit.
Police reported seeing bruising across the woman’s back, shoulders, arms and ankles, along with an abrasion on her forehead. She told investigators that Baird allegedly prevented her from calling the police by disabling her Life Alert and Wi-Fi, and hiding her cellphone.
At one point, Baird threatened to kill family members and himself, according to his grandmother. He allegedly claimed he would use a gun to do it.
Weber County deputies later arrested Baird, reporting that he appeared heavily intoxicated, per the affidavit. Baird was booked into the Weber County Jail and is being held without bail on charges of kidnapping, aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury, intentional aggravated abuse of a vulnerable adult, damaging or interrupting a communication device and threat of violence.
