MONROE COUNTY, Fla. (TCN) — A 53-year-old man is behind bars after a teenage girl called 911 to report that she was being held hostage.
On June 21, deputies from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home after a teenage girl, whose name has not been released, dialed 911 and said she was being held hostage, NBC Miami reports. When deputies arrived, they found the victim inside the dryer. She was taken to the hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators learned Christopher Michael Veit allegedly had ongoing sexual activity with the victim. He had allegedly restrained her, placed her in the dryer, and taken her phone away when she told him she wanted to leave, according to NBC Miami.Â
While investigating the scene and collecting evidence, authorities also allegedly found counterfeit currency and the U.S. Secret Service was notified, according to police.
People reports that the victim was from out of state and it is not clear how she knew Veit.Â
Veit was arrested the same day and jailed on charges of kidnapping/false imprisonment, interference with child custody, and unlawful sexual activity with a minor, according to NBC. More charges may be forthcoming as the investigation is ongoing.
