SPARKS, Nev. (TCN) — A 56-year-old man will spend the rest of his life behind bars for stabbing another man and leaving him to die in a park.
The Washoe County District Attorney’s Office announced Aug. 28 that a judge sentenced David Abara to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder of Randal Lowery, as well as an additional eight to 20 years for a deadly weapons enhancement.
According to prosecutors, on June 7, 2023, Abara repeatedly stabbed Lowery in the face, neck, and arms and then left him to die at Fisherman’s Park. Someone reportedly found the victim “lying in the dirt, surrounded by blood,” and Sparks Police responded to the scene.
Investigators reviewed surveillance footage, which revealed Abara “yelling at the victim and then striking him.” The district attorney’s office said, “It appeared that the victim tried to defend himself, but after being hit several times, he collapsed on the ground, bleeding.”
During an interview, Abara reportedly denied that he was involved with Lowery’s death, but police identified him as the primary suspect and arrested him.
