The reason Monique Samuels was so unfazed by talk of ex-husband Chris Samuels’ romantic life on The Real Housewives of Potomac is actually quite simple, as it turns out.
As seen at the top of Season 10, Episode 8, Keiarna Stewart’s reveal to Monique that Stacey Rusch had supposedly dated Chris didn’t quite land as she had intended.
“That was the most epic fail of a delivery of a bone that I’ve ever witnessed in my life,” Monique declared on The Real Housewives of Potomac After Show. “By the time she got to the point, the whole shock factor was gone. She blew it. Like, completely.”
Add to that the fact that Monique was just meeting both Keiarna and Stacey for the first time at Ashley Darby’s Pride parade pre-game.

“So, it was really weird, but when it comes to me and my ex, I don’t care about him and what he does,” the mother of three added in the above clip. “The only thing that I care about is my children. And if you’re gonna date somebody, just make sure they’re good with the kids, you know? So, that’s my only concern.”
Plus, Monique had finalized her divorce from Chris after 11 years of marriage, roughly two years earlier in 2023.
“I would expect that he’s dating,” she explained. “Apparently, he loves hanging around Potomac Housewives, which is interesting. …Â So, I don’t know what that’s about, but, you know, it is what it is.”
What caused Monique and Chris Samuels’ divorce
Monique had said as much to Keiarna and the others on RHOP‘s Nov. 23 episode, before going on to share more intel on why she and Chris divorced.
“We had a good image,” Monique remarked to the ladies, before detailing how things were much different behind closed doors.
“I wasn’t being loved properly,” she elaborated. “I wish somebody would’ve told me whoever you marry, that person could actually get worse. The first time that I thought, ‘I can’t do this anymore,’ my daughter was six months old. She’s gonna be 10.”

After referencing the rising “tension” when she began stepping into the same limelight that Chris had enjoyed as an NFL vet, Monique gave a candid response to Tia Glover‘s question about “the straw that broke the camel’s back” in their marriage.Â
“It feels like whenever he wants something, he will be the nicest guy. And I’m like, ‘Yes! He’s back!'” Monique recalled. “And then he goes back to being who he was.”
From her perspective, that was also true of their sex life. After putting her “theory to the test” one night, Monique described feeling “like a piece of meat” after they had intercourse. The next morning, she informed Chris that their marriage was officially “done.”

Despite swirling dating rumors, Stacey insisted multiple times in the episode that Chris is someone she only knows “socially.” As she told Tia during Episode 8, Chris had never discussed his divorce with her. “We just know each other,” Stacey said. “He’s really a nice guy, just as [Monique] is lovely.”
Even so, Keiarna claimed that Karen Huger’s friend Cherita “Cookie” Whiting had told her about how Stacey allegedly reported back to Chris that Monique “was trash-talking him” to the group, immediately after Ashley’s Pride gathering.
During a heated confrontation with Keiarna and Cookie at Gizelle Bryant’s Reasonably Shady 10 million downloads party later on, however, Stacey denied the accusation.
“No matter how many times you say it, doesn’t mean that it’s true,” Stacey told Keiarna during their dustup.
