A body discovered on Christmas was identified as an Ohio-based doctor who vanished in late November, authorities said.
Lucas County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Jon Leach said people walking in the Stone Oak area discovered Cletus Iwuagwu’s body in a Springfield Township pond. The Lucas County Coroner’s Office said on Friday that Iwuagwu, 71, had drowned and foul play is not suspected in his death, according to WTVG.
Family members last saw Iwuagwu at his office on November 24. Iwuagwu’s daughter received updates on her phone about his whereabouts, but police did not find him at any of those locations.
Iwuagwu was released from the hospital shortly before his disappearance. His phone was missing, but authorities had been searching throughout Holland and Springfield Townships because the device pinged off a cell tower in the area.
Iwuagwu was a geriatric medicine physician at UToledo Health and a professor at the University of Toledo’s College of Medicine and Life Sciences Department of Medicine.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the doctor’s death is ongoing.
