Colin MacRae is on the “road to recovery” after undergoing surgery on his Achilles tendon. The Below Deck Sailing Yacht alum, who has been sailing around the world on his boat, had a brief moment of pause when he had to have surgery for the injury..
Colin took to Instagram on Feb. 16, where he revealed that he had snapped his Achilles’ tendon while he was playing rugby. In the series of photos and videos posted to his account, Colin can be seen lying in a hospital bed with his bandaged foot, smiling while sitting in a wheelchair, and pointing to his broken tendon. He then took to the caption of the post, where he gave some background on the injury.
“Life took a serious turn for the worse this weekend when I thought I could play rugby at 40,” he explained. “Snapped my Achilles clean in half, and had to have surgery to join it back together. Was a full rupture which felt like someone had shot me in the heel with a shotgun.”
He continued, revealing that this all happened while he was traveling in Bangkok, Thailand. “Going to be a long, slow road to recovery, with the surgeon saying I’m going to have to learn to walk again in a few months,” he added. “Rough timing as my boat is hauled out at the moment and access is via a ladder. Anyway, just another bump in the road.”

Amidst his recovery, Colin has found time to celebrate with his girlfriend, Brittany Amodeo. Colin took to Instagram on Feb. 18, where he revealed that Brittany has been helping him with his surgery recovery, which involves spending time with him in Thailand and helping him navigate the busy streets. He took to the caption of the post, where he penned the absolute sweetest tribute to her on their milestone dating anniversary.
“Our 3 year anniversary went down a little differently this year, with me ending up in the hospital,” he wrote in the caption of the post. “But [Brittany] didn’t skip a beat and has been helping me through this with love and compassion. But that doesn’t come as a surprise. She’s been there for me since day one. Love you lots, here’s to many more exciting injury-free adventures.”

Brittany also took to her Instagram account on their anniversary, where she posted a video celebrating their relationship. In the video, the couple can be seen traveling the world with each other, kissing in a pool, singing to each other in a crowded bar, and sailing together.
“Celebrating 3 years together on this beautiful journey, sailing the high seas, and finding ourselves on roads less traveled,” she wrote in the caption of the post. “It’s overwhelming to think about all the places we’ve been, experiences we’ve had, and people we’ve met along the way. So grateful to share this lifetime with you. I love you.”
