Craig Conover is making some major changes to Sewing Down South’s flagship store in Charleston. The Southern Charm entrepreneur first opened the store on King Street in May 2021 and is doing something special in honor of its five year anniversary.Â
Craig took to Instagram on Monday, May 11, where he posted a video of himself standing in a very empty Sewing Down South. The store, which is normally decorated with pillows and merchandise, looked particularly bare as he explained what was happening inside the boutique. “Sewing Down South looks a little different today,” he explained with a laugh.Â
“It’s our five-year anniversary coming up on Friday. We decided to do an entire store refresh,” he explained, showing off the interior. “It’s a little scary seeing it now. Pretty much everything is gone. But we wanted it to be new and exciting for y’all and everyone who has been supporting us over the years.”
This refresh includes a fresh coat of paint and custom cabinetry just in time for the grand re-opening. “SDS is CLOSED…this week,” he wrote in the caption of the post.
Craig Conover teases a new project
A refresh to Sewing Down South’s flagship store isn’t the only thing coming from Craig and his career. The Delaware native took to Instagram on May 5, where he posted a series of photos of himself wearing a Charleston sweatshirt and journaling in a blank journal. “Who knew a little journaling on my solo trip to Switzerland would lead to my newest project and something I can’t wait to share,” he wrote in the caption of the post.
Sewing Down South’s official Instagram account took to the comments of the post, where they hinted at what’s to come. “Oooooh, what could this bee?!” they wrote.

Craig Conover opens up about starting Sewing Down South
Craig spoke with Forbes in April, where he opened up about how starting Sewing Down South in 2019 changed his life and helped him with his happiness. “I was going through my first breakup on television, and I was just home, and all I had was my sewing machine,” he explained. “I remembered how to make a pillow from Home Ec[onomics] and so I ripped up some old shirts and made a pillow inside out, and when I turned it right side out, I had this feeling of creation and I didn’t feel sad anymore,” he explained.
He continued, revealing how sewing that one pillow changed everything for him. “A few years ago, I read something that said, ‘Make everything that happens to you your fault.’ I took that to mean don’t sit around waiting for permission to do things that you want to do,” he noted. “So if you like to sew or craft or cook or garden, whatever it is, just do it, chase that personal happiness.”
