Scheana Shay has said goodbye to a longtime member of her family. She shared this week that her cat, Penny Lane, recently passed away. Scheana remembered her beloved cat in an emotional message she shared on Instagram on August 12.
“Two nights ago we had to say goodbye to my first baby, Penny Lane, at home in her favorite spot— in front of the fireplace. 17 years with my sweet girl and it still wasn’t enough,” Scheana wrote on Instagram. She then shared some of her favorite memories of her longtime pet companion, who even popped up on Vanderpump Rules in the past.
“I’ve experienced a lot of loss in my life, but this has been a unique kind of pain — one I’ve never known before. Penny Lane has been the constant through so many seasons of my life. From a tiny apartment in Hollywood, to the Vegas Strip, then the Marina, the desert, the beach in San Diego, and finally the Valley here in Los Angeles… She was there for all of it. The things she has seen people would pay good money for,” Scheana wrote in tribute to her cat.

She added, “She was with me through my single days, my married days, my divorced-and-desperate era, through miscarriage, motherhood, and everything in between. No matter what life looked like, I was never truly alone, because I always had her by my side.”
The tribute, featuring photos of Penny Lane from throughout her life (yes, including a Vanderpump Rules cameo) with Scheana by her side. “She made me the cat lady I am today and even tho I still have 4 cats in my house, I feel a hole in my heart and house,” Scheana added. “I miss her nighttime meows, her wet little nose nudging me, and her constantly wanting to make an appearance in every cameo video I do at home.”

The tribute was set to the song “Something In The Heavens” by Lewis Capaldi, with Scheana explaining why she opted for that track. “Shortly after she left us, this song came on my Alexa, and I just sobbed. Until we meet again, sweet Penny.”
Inside Scheana Shay’s decision to adopt more cats
Earlier this year, Scheana’s cat family grew when she adopted three kittens. She took fans inside the moment she introduced the three cats to her daughter, Summer Moon, with her husband, Brock Davies. And, yes, Summer was very excited to meet her new furry family members.Â
In the months since, Scheana has shared new looks at the cats. “Happy International Cat Day from your fave cat lady! (This is your reminder to adopt a cat or 2 or 3),” she wrote in early August 2026. Of course, Scheana also has another cat in her life, Salem.

Scheana Shay opens up about her love for her cats
In a 2021 interview with Bravo, Scheana opened up about the importance of her cats in her life as she was expecting her daughter, Summer.
“These are my first kids. So I told Brock, I said, “When we come home, you need to be holding the baby. I will greet the cats right away. I don’t want them to feel like they don’t have that attention.’ And my mom will stay with us for a little bit in the beginning. My sister will be around. So as long as they’re still getting attention, I’m hoping that it’ll be okay. But people on Instagram are like, ‘Be careful with cats around babies, you know, cats this, cats that.’ I’m like, maybe. And maybe not. You don’t know how an animal’s gonna react until they do. So I’m just, I’m really hoping for the best [laughs],” she said at the time. “Like what am I supposed to do, get rid of my cats I’ve had for 11 years ’cause I’m having a baby? No. Millions of people have cats and babies. It’ll be okay.”
