Austin, Texas – Elon Musk recently became the Republican Party’s largest donor as he continues spending millions of his own money to make sure they stay in power.

According to CNBC, the world’s richest man has spent more than $276 million on Republican groups since July, making him the party’s largest known donor for the midterms.
Musk has given $158 million to the Senate Leadership Fund, the main super PAC backing Republican Senate candidates, and more than $76 million to his own America PAC.
Overall, Musk has spent roughly $366 million for the 2025-26 cycle, and his donation to the Senate Leadership Fund has been found to be the largest known political donation by an individual in US history.

Musk began financially backing Republicans in 2024, when he created America PAC with the sole intention of helping Donald Trump win reelection.
During the race, Musk spent over $290 million, and after Trump won, he was awarded the job of heading the Department of Government Efficiency.
As his time as a temporary government employee came to an end, Musk and Trump got into a messy public feud. Months later, the Tesla CEO said he would be doing “a lot less” political spending in the future – a vow he has clearly gone back on.
Musk has also separately spent $10 million to support Ken Paxton, who is running for a Senate seat in his home state of Texas against Democrat James Talarico.
Musk recently made headlines as one of the notable right-wing figures who has been spreading a debunked conspiracy theory that Talarico had secretly checked himself into a mental health facility.
