Aegon felt odd getting married to his sister. However, it was an important approach of queen Alicent. It played a significant part in the war. 

Aegon’s brother Aemond mentions their sibling’s marriage in House of the Dragon episode 7, where he claims the relationship with make Iron Throne stronger and enhance their Valyrian bloodline. 

Even the Targaryen tradition of marrying their own blood will keep the members of the Targaryan family in a higher position. Aegon and Helaena are the heirs of full-blooded Targaryens.

In the House of the Dragon episode 6, Alicent erased the marriage of Rahenyra’s son and Helaena’s possibility. Nonetheless, if Helaena tied the knot with Jacaerys, it would have brought House Targaryen together, and there may not be a war for the throne. But Aegon’s mother made this impossible.

Aegon Married Helaena Long Before The Civil War

Ageon married his younger sister before the civil war called Dance of the Dragons. The couple had children in the eighth episode of the House of the Dragon. 

During the marriage, Aegon complained he had nothing in common with Helaena. However, his brother Aemond Targaryen claimed she was their sister and the future queen of the Targaryen family. 

Aemond would have married his sister Helaena if his mother Alicent had arranged their wedding ceremony instead of Aegon. The younger Targaryen knew his duty and understood his mother’s strategy for their marriage.

Aemond understands the move of his mother’s political strategies and the role they played in securing the Iron Throne. 

Aegon and Princess Helaena Targaryen had three children together. Also, Jaehaerys and Jaehaera are the twins of the couple. Maelor is the younger son. 

Prince Jaehaerys Targaryen

King Aegon and Queen Helaena’s son were named Jaehaerys. He was the firstborn and heir of the sixth king. In addition, he stood close to the Iron Throne. Maelor is his younger brother, while Jaehaera is his twin.

Compared to his twin sister, Jaehaerys was healthier. The persona was born with a set of six fingers and toes. In addition, he was born in the year 123 A.C., following his parents’ marriage. The Targaryen king Viserys I claimed that his son was their own heir.

Princess Jaehaera Targaryen 

Jaehaera was the daughter of Aegon and Helaena. She was the first wife of her cousin, king Aegon III Targaryen following the demise of her parents and brother. She was bounded to dragon Moghul. She was thinner than her twin brother.

As a peace agreement, Jaehaera tied the knot with Aegon III Targaryen. She was only 8 when she weeded, and Aegon was only 11. After two years of her marriage, she passed away. 

Prince Maelor Targaryen 

The noble Aegon and Queen Helaena had a second son named Maelor. He was restrained by a dragon egg. Additionally, he was the Ageon’s third son and was born in 127 AC. When he went to see his grandfather King Viserys I Targaryen, he played with the pearl ring that had been on Viserys’ finger.

Maelor, who is now second in line to the Iron Throne, was only two years old when his father was crowned. After that, Jaehaerys, his older brother, had killed. His mother had offered to choose one of the kids, and she chose Maelor.
