Riley Burruss Opens Up About Moving to Brooklyn (VIDEO)

How to Watch

Watch Next Gen NYC on Bravo Tuesdays at 9/8c and next day on Peacock.

Riley Burruss is opening up about making a big change to her New York City living arrangement.

In the above first look at Season 1, Episode 2 of Next Gen NYC (set to air June 10) Riley shares new details about moving from her hometown nearly five years ago to attend New York University.

“Moving from Atlanta to New York, it’s really tough,” Riley confesses in an interview. “The city is really hectic and busy.”

“Thankfully,” she continues, “I just moved to Brooklyn.”

Why Brooklyn after more than four years in Manhattan? “Brooklyn is more, like, calm,” she shares, adding that in Brooklyn, she feels “you have an actual community.”

After admitting, “It was hard making real friends in New York City,” Riley explains, “A lot of people just use whoever to get further, which is different from Atlanta, [where] I feel like people actually care about each other. Here? It’s everyone for themselves.”

Riley Burruss’ apartment journey in New York City

Riley’s moved to her first NYC apartment while completing a summer internship with an entertainment attorney. As seen on The Real Housewives of Atlanta Season 12, Episode 5, Riley’s mom, Kandi Burruss, paid the Manhattan pad’s $5,547-per-month rent.

However, Kandi explained in a 2019 YouTube video, Riley’s freshman year accommodations would look quite different.

“When she was doing her internship… she had to set up her own housing, and that’s how she ended up having an apartment,” Kandi said. “But this time, you’re going to actually have to have a dorm.”

Riley added, “Yeah, I’ll be in a dorm, don’t worry, guys. I won’t be in an expensive apartment. I would love to be, though! But yes, I’ll be in a dorm.”

In April 2022, Kandi and Todd Tucker told The Daily Dish that Riley had moved into an incredible new apartment.

“She loves it,” Kandi said, explaining that Riley is now living in a “doorman building” in a “prime area” without a roommate. With that in mind, Todd declared, “Riley is living the New York American dream.”

Riley revealed she was moving once again in a February 2024 Instagram Story. In the photo, Riley offered a “sneak peek” at her new bedroom while asking her followers for furniture recommendations.

Riley Burruss reveals Kandi Burruss is going to cut her off financially

Now that Riley has officially entered post-grad life, she’s feeling a bit of financial pressure as she continues living in New York City.

“I just graduated a month ago from NYU with a major in music business,” she shared on the Next Gen NYC premiere. “I feel stressed and on a time crunch because my mom has given me one year before she cuts me off financially.”
