WENATCHEE, Wash. (TCN) — Investigators tested DNA in blood found on a truck and learned it’s reportedly a match to the suspect accused of taking his three young daughters and killing them.
In an earlier news release from the Wenatchee Police Department, authorities said a mother reported her three daughters missing on the night of May 30 after a planned visitation with their father, 32-year-old Travis Decker, who was believed to be living out of a GMC Sierra truck. Officials determined Decker and his children, 5-year-old Olivia Decker, 8-year-old Evelyn Decker, and 9-year-old Paityn Decker, were still in Chelan County.
Investigators reportedly discovered Travis Decker’s truck unoccupied near the Rock Island Campground on June 2. According to KCPQ-TV, there were two bloody handprints on the vehicle, which contained various items, including blankets, food, car seats, and a wallet.
Authorities searched the immediate area and discovered the bodies of the three missing girls. A preliminary examination reportedly revealed they likely died of asphyxiation.
According to a July 1 news release from the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office, investigators recently tested blood samples taken from Decker’s truck, which KOMO-TV reports was obtained via bloody handprints. After creating a DNA profile, officials reportedly concluded it was likely a match to Decker. The sheriff’s office said DNA from Decker’s personal items found at the scene also matched the DNA in the blood samples.
Deputies said, “At this time, we do not have any evidence to suggest Mr. Decker is alive or deceased. Until he is taken into custody or recovered, we will continue these efforts. We are extremely grateful for the continued leadership, dedication, and support from all of our search teams.”
The U.S. Marshals Service is offering a reward of up to $20,000 for any information leading to Decker’s arrest. Authorities said he should be considered armed and dangerous.
