Oregon man gets life in prison for fatally stabbing 9-year-old son with a spear

COOS COUNTY, Ore. (TCN) — A father has been sentenced to life in prison in connection with the fatal stabbing of his 9-year-old son last year.

According to the Coos County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a home on Sept. 28, 2025, after receiving a report that a boy had been stabbed. The child was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the Coos Bay World reports.

Deputies were told the child was accidentally stabbed by his sister when the two were playing with a spear, according to the sheriff’s office, but an investigation found he had been stabbed by his father, Levi Higgins-Green.

A search warrant was executed on Oct. 3, 2025, at Higgins-Green’s home, per the Coos Bay World. The investigation also found evidence of other domestic violence incidents over the years, according to the sheriff’s office. 

Higgins-Green pleaded guilty on Aug. 31 to second-degree murder, two counts of first-degree criminal mistreatment, two counts of third-degree assault, second-degree assault constituting domestic violence, and strangulation constituting domestic violence. 

KATU reports that Higgins-Green was handed a life sentence with the possibility of parole after 25 years for the second-degree murder charge, and a consecutive 80 months in prison for the other charges; he will not be eligible for parole for 31 ½ years.
