The Afghan cricketer is also the former captain of the Afghanistan national cricket team. He is an attacking batting all-rounder, playing as an off-break bowler and right-handed batsman. 

Nabi, nicknamed Mr. President, has played a significant role in Afghanistan’s rise in cricket, leading the team to the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup and 2024 ICC World Twenty20.

He was inducted as a member of the Afghanistan Cricket Board in August 2020.

Muhammad Nabi Afghanistan Death Hoax: He Is Alive?

Muhammad Nabi’s death news is a pure hoax. The Afghan cricketer is alive and well as of November 2022.

However, his Father, Khobi Khan, has sadly passed away. Fans have taken to Twitter to pay their condolences. The cause of his death is not known yet.

It is not the first news about Muhammad Nabi’s death that has circulated. Something similar happened precisely three years ago, in October 2019.

Cricket fans were left stunned by the reports. Rumors had it that the then 34-year-old veteran died after a heart attack.

However, a few hours after the hoax started, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) squashed the speculations by sharing pictures of Nabi training alongside his team at the Kabil Stadium.

Nevertheless, the rumors continued to spread. Eventually, Nabi took matters into his own hands and went to Twitter to dispel the false news.

“Alhamdulillah, I am all good; news disseminated by some media outlets about my demise is FAKE. Thank you,” he wrote on his official Twitter handle.

Get To Know Muhammad Nabi Family

Mohammad Nabi Essa Khel was born in a well-to-do family in Logar Province, Afghanistan. His Father’s name is Khobi Khan.

Later, the family moved to Peshawar in Pakistan, fleeing the Soviet War in Afghanistan. Nabi took up cricket in Peshawar at 10, where he managed to begin training at Arshad Khan’s academy.

Nabi then made his competitive debut in Cornelius Trophy against Rahim Yar Khan Cricket Association in 2003, where he top-scored for the team with 61 runs.

His family later moved back to Afghanistan when he was 15. He then started playing cricket with Mohammad Shahzad, Asghar Afghan, and Shapoor Zadran, all future stars of the Afghan national team.

Muhammad Nabi Son Is Also Getting Into Cricket

Although his wife’s name is unavailable, Muhammad Nabi is blessed with a baby boy. His son, Hassan Khan, is currently 17.

Hassan aspires to follow in his Father’s footsteps and hopes to play for Afghanistan one day. In his first shot at professional cricket, he impressed with 71 off 30 balls while playing for Bukhtair XI.

He is currently training at the Sharjah Academy, and his ability has already caught the eye of many. Talking to the National, Hassan said he doesn’t feel pressure but wants to follow in his dad’s footsteps and play for Afghanistan.

He further shared that his first memories of cricket are of watching Nabi playing on the TV. Hassan is a proud son, happy seeing his dad’s achievements and fame in international circles.

Mohammad Nabi’s only child values the knowledge imparted by his dad above everything else. While he accepts advice from other coaches, his top priority is always Nabi’s verification.
