Ala. woman says she killed her husband because he was annoying her after she had heart surgery

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ala. (TCN) – A 65-year-old woman has been booked into jail and charged with murder after she allegedly fatally shot her husband as he sat in his recliner.

WFSB reports that on May 10, Sherri Mitchell-Clutts called 911 and allegedly admitted that she had shot her husband because she said she felt threatened. When authorities arrived at the home, they found Timothy Clutts, 69, dead from a gunshot wound to the chest.

During her interview with authorities, Mitchell-Clutts allegedly changed her story and did not say she had been threatened by the victim. She allegedly admitted that she had shot her husband because she was annoyed by him.

Two weeks before the fatal shooting, she had reportedly undergone open heart surgery and told authorities that he kept coming into her room and bothering her. She alleged that she got a gun out in case he returned, but when he did not, she went out to the living room where she allegedly shot him as he sat in his recliner.

WFSB reports that the police have never responded to the couple’s home for domestic issues. The investigation is ongoing, and Mitchell-Clutts remains held without bond.
