Dad Ignores Child Safety Alarm, Leaves Tot Boy to Die in Hot Car: Police – Crime Online

A Florida man has been arrested for Monday’s hot-car death of his 2-year-old son.

James Fidele, 37, reportedly called 911 and said he mistakingly left his son in his car after getting home. St. Lucie County Fire Rescue transported the child to the hospital, but he was pronounced dead, according to WBPF.

On the day in question, temperatures in Port St. Lucie reached 83 degrees. The Daily Mail reported that by the time the toddler reached the hospital, his body temperature exceeded 100 degrees.

Fidele allegedly told detectives that he had dropped off his other four children at school and returned home to work, but had forgotten his son was in the vehicle. He said it was more than five hours later, when he went to get a package from the car, that he found his son unconscious in the backseat with his eyes open, WBPF reported.

Investigators determined that there was a rear seat alarm in Fidele’s car. Further, a neighbor’s Ring doorbell camera reportedly caught Fidele using no urgency in taking his lifeless son out of the scorching car.

Fidele is charged with leaving a child unattended in a motor vehicle, causing great bodily harm.
