Elizabeth was born Elizabeth Lillian Oliver in Burra Burra, South Australia, in April 1848. She married Thomas Woolcock in 1898, and the couple had six children together. Elizabeth  died in Adelaide, South Australia, in December 1963.

On November 29, 1849, an inquest was held on the body of Thomas Woolcock, who had died two days earlier. The jury returned a verdict of wilful murder against Elizabeth, and she was committed to trial.
