Crichton was a naturally gifted basketball player who used his 193-centimeter height to slam dunks and the best of them, as evidenced by a video from a few years ago.

His parents, Sina and Va’a, Crichton’s parents, quit their jobs at an onion factory in Apia, Samoa, when he was two years old and relocated their expanding family first to New Zealand and then to Australia, where they settled in Mount Druitt region.

Before plastic surgery, Panthers doctor Scott Reid attempted to keep Crichton’s ear intact so he could play for the NSW Origin center against Parramatta at CommBank Stadium the following Friday night.

Crichton was taken off the field in the 71st minute of the game, which Penrith won 20-10, and needed to pass the NRL’s stringent HIA regulations before being allowed to return even if his ear recovered in time.

Months have passed, and he is currently getting better and back on track. However, the incident impacted his game, and the dreadful experience shocked everyone.

The breach notice claimed that Crichton’s actions were against the game’s best interests.

The NRL accused Crichton and teammate Nathan Cleary of disrespecting the people portrayed in the famous moment on the trophy. However, neither they nor any other Penrith players had shattered the trophy.
