Kathy Hilton revealed her theory on why Kyle Richards and Mauricio Umansky are still married more than two years post-split, during Part 2 of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Season 15 reunion.
Because Kyle and Mauricio announced their separation in October 2023, host Andy Cohen asked Kathy to weigh in on why she thought the estranged couple had been “kind of slow to file” for divorce.
“I think maybe, like, it could be a little denial,” Kathy replied, prompting Rachel Zoe to add, “They’re not ready to pull the trigger.”

That’s when Kyle spoke for herself, explaining that she and Mauricio “have had a conversation” about if and when they should legally end their marriage. She shared that they’re still in no rush to divorce, however.
“Once there’s someone, you know, that comes into either one of our lives, they’re gonna force our hand in that, you know, obviously,” Kyle elaborated. “We haven’t felt that and needed to do that.”

Meanwhile, Bozoma Saint John opined that waiting until there’s a romantic partner serving as the “catalyst” for one of them to file for divorce might “cause anger,” whereas it could be “easier to separate assets, to separate lives,” now, in light of Kyle and Mauricio’s “cordial” relationship.
“I’d rather blame somebody,” Kyle joked, prior to Andy questioning if she was “afraid” that her and Mauricio’s relationship would “inherently change” if they were officially divorced.
“Yes, that does scare me,” Kyle admitted, before confirming that fact was “probably” what was “holding [her] back” from divorcing Mauricio. She denied that she was “waiting for him” to come back to her, however, as Dorit Kemsley had suggested might be the case.

“I think it’s just not knowing what you want,” Kyle added. “And, you know, I like the way it is 1777597862.”
She went on to detail how she and Mau still take family trips to Colorado with their daughters, but that “would change,” post-divorce. “It would be scary if it changed,” Kyle said.
Even if they did divorce, though, Kyle insisted that, despite them not having a prenup, half of Mauricio’s real estate company, The Agency, belonged to her anyway. When Kathy chimed in to ask, “Does he realize that?” she replied, “We built our lives together. He literally had two nickels when I married him.”

While slightly switching gears, Andy also gave Kathy the opportunity to comment on how Kyle did “as a mother of the bride” when daughter Alexia Umansky married Jake Zingerman in September 2025, as seen in the RHOBH Season 15 finale.
“I cried, because I knew that you kind of felt on your own,” Kathy shared, referring to Kyle’s split from Mauricio. “Even though you’re close and whatever, I know how you are.”
Kyle responded, “It was sad in that aspect, because that’s not what I envisioned, you know, for when our children got married and everything. But I see so much of us in Alexia and Jake.”
She went on to explain how she and Mauricio are “asked all the time how this happened” to them, adding that she believes “money and fame and traveling” had contributed to the downfall of their marriage.
Insisting that she was “really trying not to be emotional,” Kyle’s voice broke as she imagined a world in which she and Mauricio might be enjoying a quiet life together in Colorado, had they not decided to focus on making money in Los Angeles.
“We would, like, move to Vail, and [Mauricio] could be, like, a ski instructor and I could be home with the kids,” she dreamt. “And I do believe that if that had happened, we’d still be together.”
