While Amanda stayed behind in New York City for a mental-health weekend, Kyle went out in the Hamptons with some of their castmates in Episode 13. Upon returning to the share house, Kyle sent Amanda a text before calling it a night.

“Hi, texted you earlier but didn’t hear back. I’m home now and going to bed,” he wrote, per an onscreen graphic. “Talk tomorrow. Miss you.”

According to Kyle, Amanda’s lack of response had become par for the course in their relationship.

“I will say, my text thread with Amanda is perhaps one of the most depressing text threads of all time,” he told a producer before reading off a series of unanswered messages that he’d recently sent to his wife. “The only reaction we got all weekend from her was when West [Wilson] said in the group chat, ‘Best night ever.’ Amanda, her ears perked up, and she [was] like, ‘Damn.’ That’s what it took to give her a little FOMO.”

The message from West that Kyle was referring to had come up earlier in Summer House‘s April 28 episode. At the time, Amanda had called to check in with Kyle and Ciara Miller, as the group enjoyed a day of boating near Montauk.

During their phone conversation, Kyle asked, “When West said, ‘Best night of my life,’ and you said, ‘Damn,’ was that, like, sarcasm?”

Amanda, for her part, explained that she was not being sarcastic in her response to West’s comment in the group chat about the group’s previous night without her.

“No, like, way to rub salt in the wound,” Amanda clarified, prompting Kyle to respond, “Oh, it was? Wow. So, she was feeling jealous.”

She went on to tell him and Ciara, “Yeah, West’s best night of his life is the one night I’m not there? Yeah, that feels great.”

When Kyle replied, “You made it about you, but I get it,” Amanda added, “Of course I did,” before ending their call.

Kyle Cooke shared his honest take on Amanda Batula’s weekend absence

After speaking to Amanda, Kyle spent some time catching up with the guys aboard the boat. “It feels weird without Amanda here,” he pointed out to them.

Jesse Solomon, for one, asked him, “Do you feel like you’re able to have more levity and just a good time this weekend because she’s not here?”

Kyle’s candid answer: “I mean, yeah. Dude, when I’m just being myself, I feel like I just irritate her, if I’m being honest.”

When Jesse tried to broach a larger conversation about the future of his and Amanda’s marriage, however, Kyle shut him down, explaining, “Can I be honest? Can we just not talk about this? I’m already like… I was having a good weekend.”

Kyle had made similar comments about enjoying his time away from Amanda during the previous episode, too.

“Here I am, for the first time in a long time, having fun, feeling a little more lighthearted, feeling a little like myself, and it’s ’cause my wife’s nowhere to be seen,” Kyle admitted to a producer in an Episode 12 confessional. “And that is a rude awakening. And it makes me realize just how effed we really are.”

As his and Amanda’s marriage continues to crumble on the show, find out how Kyle prepared for the Summer House Season 10 reunion.
