After he was shot in the head following in argument over a woman, a 44-year-old man walked a mile to his friend’s house to get help, authorities say.
It happened shortly before 3 a.m. Wednesday in Holly Hill, Florida. The victim’s friend called 911 after his pal knocked on his door.
“He just woke me up,” the caller said. “I was sound asleep.”
The victim was bleeding profusely from his face and head and could be heard moaning in the background of the 911 call begging for an ambulance. He told dispatchers he was shot by a man named Christopher Hastings, 33. The two had apparently been in a fight over a woman when Hastings allegedly shot him once in the head. Paramedics arrived on scene and rushed him to the hospital where he was last listed in serious condition.
Hastings fled, but cops quickly arrested him nearby. Body camera video released by the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office shows deputies surrounding his car with their weapons drawn.
“Hands on top of your face, do it now,” deputies yell at Hastings.
“Bro, what’s wrong,” Hastings responded.
“If you do anything other than what we tell you to do you will be shot, do you understand,” another deputy says.
The deputies pull Hastings out of the car and place him in handcuffs. Cops found a gun in the car they believe Hastings used to shoot the victim. While talking to cops before he is led into a police car, Hastings tries to establish an alibi.
“I just got back from Orlando not too long ago,” he claimed. “Maybe a half hour ago.”
Hastings is facing a second-degree attempted murder charge and is being held at the Volusia County Jail without bond.
