Michigan Police Believe They’ve Found Body of Kelly McWhirter, Missing Since October 14 – Crime Online

Police in Michigan believe they have found the body of a woman missing since she failed to show up for work in mid October.

A hunter was training his dog in Saginaw County Wednesday afternoon, authorities said, and the dog located a badly decomposed body. Genessee County Sheriff Chris Swanson said the body had “significant trauma” was wearing clothing matching what Kelly McWhirter, 60, was wearing on the day she went missing.

Investigators found a “significant amount of blood” inside the Flushing home McWhirter shared with her husband, 57-year-old Steven Higgins, as CrimeOnline reported. Swanson said at the time “there was likely violence inside the home.”

Deputies spotted Higgins in Saginaw County shortly after McWhirter was reported missing, but he fatally shot himself when they attempted a traffic stop.

The Genessee County Sheriff’s Office said it is awaiting DNA and dental confirmation that the body is that of McWhirter.
