It is with a heavy heart that the family of Pierre duCharme announces that he has passed away today peacefully surrounded by family. There will be a celebration of life scheduled for next July, his favorite month of the year. All will be welcome to share stories and memories. In lieu of flowers, a donation will be set up in his honor to support a young student-athlete from the area. We appreciate everyone’s support during his hospital stays and illness. He so loved each and every one of you and will be missed by many around the lakes area.
Early Life And Career
From 1982 until 1988, Pierre DuCharme was the men’s basketball team’s head coach at Southwest Minnesota State University. SMSU amassed a record of 93-162 during his time there, including 44-64 in the Northern Intercollegiate Conference. In a four-year period, three of duCharme’s teams placed second in the NIC; the last time being the 1987–88 campaign. From July 1985 until May 1989, Pierre DuCharme directed the men’s athletic program at SMSU in addition to his responsibilities as head coach. Barnesville High School alumnus duCharme, a native of Moorhead, Minnesota, joined SMSU after five seasons as the men’s basketball team’s head coach at Mayville State University.

We are so very, very sorry to hear this. I’m glad the boys and I stopped in so often this past summer, we all have such great memories of Pierre and he shall forever hold a place in our hearts. We will be thinking of you all til we can hug you again next summer.

I am so sorry to hear this! Although I have not seen Pierre in years, I truly enjoyed the time that I worked with him at SMSU. He was always joking and fun to be around! He will be missed by many! Hugs and blessings to the family!??
