Although there is a theoretical cap of more than 700 attendees, the real number will probably be far lower given the short notice.

King Charles III: First Declaration Of The New King Of England

A second meeting of the Accession Council will be attended by the Privy Council and the new King of England. This will follow a custom that dates back to the early 18th century and will not be a swearing-in at the beginning of a British monarch’s reign. He’ll swear to uphold the Church of Scotland.

Following a trumpet flourish, Charles III will be officially proclaimed the next King of England. A balcony over Friary Court at St. James Palace will be constructed.

For the first time since 1952, the National Anthem will play with the lyrics “God Save the King” after he calls “God Save the King.”

Coronation Of King Charles III

The Coronation, during which Charles will be formally crowned, will be the symbolic High Point of the Accession. At the conclusion of the ceremony, he will set Charles’s head on St. Edward’s Crown. It is a 1661-vintage solid gold crown.

This is the main piece of the Crown Jewels on display at the Tower of London, and the monarch only dons it during the actual Coronation.
