The Lille forward is seemingly set to make his first ventures into Serie A – the league his father, George Weah, dominated when he joined AC Milan in 1995 as he capped off a Ballon d’Or winning season.
Timothy Weah went an entire season at Lille without scoring a goal – but bagged two assists in 29 Ligue 1 games. He also scored the USA’s first goal at the World Cup.
Weah possesses remarkable physical attributes – such as his dribbling and pace – and has showed great intelligence for both club and country. He’s also proven to be versatile in his positioning – having played right wing as fullback on both sides of the pitch.
He’d become the second American to join the Old Lady – joining current American teammate Weston McKennie who is returning from an unfortunate loan spell at Leeds United.
Weah could have an immediate impact on the squad with the departure of right winger Angel Di Maria and right midfielder Juan Cuadrado. Right back Mattia De Sciglio is also injured and not expected to return until 2024.
Weah has spent four seasons with Lille, making 107 appearances and scoring eight goals
Weah also scored the first goal for the United States men’s national team at the World Cup
Born in Brooklyn, Timothy spent one year in the academy of the New York Red Bulls before moving to France and joining Paris Saint-Germain.
At the club his father dominated, he couldn’t crack the star-studded starting lineup – making only six appearances and scoring two goals in his career with Les Parisiens.
He spent one season on loan with Glasgow Celtic – scoring four goals in 17 appearances across all competitions.
Following that loan spell, he moved to Lille for around $11.3m. He went on to play 107 games for Les Dogues and bagged eight goals in all competitions.
