Trespasser Kills New Mexico Police Officer Dad with 2 Young Children, Witness Shoots Suspect – Crime Online

A New Mexico police officer lost his life on Sunday after being stabbed while responding to a trespassing report in Las Cruces.

According to Fox News Digital, Las Cruces Police Department patrol officer Jonah Hernandez was fatally stabbed while responding to a trespassing call in the 300 block of South Valley Drive around 5 p.m.

Hernandez was taken to MountainView Regional Medical Center, where he succumbed to the injuries.

The preliminary stages of the investigation suggest that the suspect, who allegedly trespassed onto the property, is the assailant. A witness, according to police, then shot the suspect and used Hernandez’s radio to call for help.

AP reports that the suspect passed away from his injuries. Police identified him as a 29-year-old male, but his name has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.

Hernandez, who worked for LCPD for two years, leaves behind a wife and his two young sons, ages 10 and 2.

The story is developing. Check back for updates.
