Two adults have been charged with murder in the shooting at the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory celebration last week, including the man police believe fired that shot that killed popular radio host Lisa Lopez-Galvan.
Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker said Tuesday that Dominic M. Miller, a teen born in 2005, and 23-year-old Lyndell Mays have been charged with second degree murder, armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon, KMBC reported.
The two men join two unidentified boys with charges related to the shooting on Wednesday that left 22 people with gunshot wounds in addition to Lopez-Galvan’s death, as CrimeOnline reported. The boys face gun-related charges in juvenile court in connection with the shooting.
Court records say Miller and Mays were, of course, armed when they attended the parade and rally on February 14, according to KMBC. Prosecutors say the two men were not acquainted but were among a group of people who got into some kind of argument. Prosecutors say Mays was the first to pull his gun, followed by multiple others, including Miller.
Both were struck by gunfire and have been hospitalized since the incident.
The family of Lopez-Galvan, who hosted the popular “Taste of Tejana” program on KKFI, released a statement saying they were “grateful” for the work done by prosecutors and investigators.
“It is reassuring for our family and the entire community to know that this joint team effort has resulted in the identification of the suspects involved,” they said in the statement. “Though it does not bring back our beloved Lisa, it is comforting to know that the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office and the KCPD made it a top priority to seek justice for Lisa, the other shooting victims, those who had to witness this tragedy unfold and the Kansas City community.”
Miller and Mays are being held on a $1 million bond. Baker said she anticipates more arrests to come in connection with the shooting.
