A 17-year-old Nevada girl stands charged with gunning down her father and brother, telling police she was “set off” because her mother left in December.
Mashenka Ann Marie Reid told polic she sent her father, 39-year-old Justin Reid, to the store on February 10 to stall for time so she could remember how to use the gun, KOLO reported.
When he returned, she shot him as he came through the door then shot her brother, 4 or 5 years old, as he lay on a sofa. She said she contemplated killing her sister and herself, but was unable to break into her father’s room, where the sister was, and thought killing herself was too merciful.
She told detectives she had been “extremely depressed” since her mother left on December 15.
Neighbors called police after hearing what they described as muffled gunshots, and Reid herself called 911 before police arrived on the scene. She told dispatchers that she had shot her father and brother, saying, “I just couldn’t resist the urge to kill somebody.”
She has been charged with two counts of open murder with a deadly weapon and one count of attempted murder with a deadly weapon, according to KNRV.
