The 51-year-old man came back with the child and left them with a family member before again taking off.
Police in Texas are looking for a 51-year-old man they say gunned down his girlfriend and took off with their 1-year-old child.
The man later dropped the toddler off with a family members and fled again, Harris County deputies said, according to KHOU.
“The male left the apartment complex in an early-model black Dodge Durango and shortly after the girlfriend’s body was recovered, he returned with the child and gave the child to one of the family members,” Sgt. Ben Beall said.
The sheriff’s office has not released a name or description of their suspect but say they are looking for a black Dodge Durango.
The shooting took place at about 11 p.m. Thursday. A family member found the dead woman, 31, when they went to the apartment to check on her.
Neighbors said they heard at least one gunshot.
Investigators said they expect a murder charge to be filed shortly.
